The Davis Phoenix Coalition and the @davischamber are excited to announce that THE @bombafriedrice will be performing at our annual Dia De Los Muertos celebration scheduled for Sunday, November 1st.
Bomba Fried Rice is a diverse ensemble from people all around the world and the community of Davis. Recognized as a prominent local and unique music ensemble, they play Latin genres ranging from Salsa, Rock, Reggae, Spoken Word, Cumbia, Mambo, and Ska, merging cultures and styles of music. The band began in 2013 mainly composed of students, mostly immigrants and peoples of color, to promote art for the diverse Latin(x) community. They invite members from all over the world, bringing down cultural walls by the virtue of dance and feeding the local communities with music, activism, and joy. In, 2015 Bomba Fried Rice won a SAMMIE (Sacramento Music Award) for Best World Music Ensemble.
Invitación! Would your organization like to set up an ofrenda (Memorial Altar) for the Día de Muertos celebration in Downtown Davis?
In Mexico, and other Latin American countries, the Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration is a time to acknowledge, recognize, and honor the importance of familial or community loved ones represented in an elaborate and artist ofrenda or altar (display) that includes their picture, flowers, sugar skulls, papel picado, decorations, and favorite foods.
Art and ofrendas will be set up 12-4 pm. Direct link to request an ofrenda spot no later than Oct 16th:
