The Melon Ball
The Melon Ball is the performance room inside Watermelon Music, a music store on Lake Boulevard in west Davis. The store began as 2nd Street Music and has sold, repaired, and rented instruments in town for about 30 years. The room is small and seated, with a proper stage, a sound system, and a grand piano. Shows cover folk, rock, R&B, jazz, and singer-songwriters, solo and full band. A monthly open mic doubles as a music trivia night, and the store also holds songwriting workshops and student recitals.
